German Design Award 2019 – Surteco´s winning streak continues
German Design Award 2019 – Surteco´s winning streak continues

The German Design Award sets international standards when it comes to future-oriented design developments: whoever can convince the discerning jury with their products has demonstrated their expertise in design innovation, while also having the customer and the market in mind. All the prouder we are to have received two distinctions: the Special Mention for the product COMPACT STYLE as well as the product CORE DESIGN winning in the ‘Material and Surfaces’ category. COMPACT-STYLE – „SPECIAL MENTION“ 2019 SURTECO GmbH, in collaboration with the design agency dietzproduktgestalting, ventures into entirely new dimensions for modern furniture design. The combination of a unicolour front with Döllken COMPACT STYLE simulates a coloured laminate with a natural-looking inlaid panel. This effect is a clear upgrade to the furniture and the edge skilfully adds a modern design accent. CORE-DESIGN – „WINNER“ 2019 Our digital printing technology is known for unique edge solutions for furniture at the highest level, and CORE DESIGN rethinks edges: a high-gloss worktop with a wood core (cross and end grain) reduces some of the coldness of the stone decor and gives the panel a warmer overall feeling. Detail solutions like this for designing harmonious kitchen worlds are playing in increasingly large role in satisfying customers.

Innovations from a single source – SURTECO at the interzum, Hall 6.1, Booth D50 E59

Primematt: ultramatt and non-scratch surfaces SURTECO is meeting the trend towards the primematt matt look with a selection of edgings that have impressive properties when it comes to visual appearance and mechanical characteristics. The highlight is the pleasant silky touch and the touch-sensitive surface. The primematt and highgloss edgings are available in maximum width of 105 mm and in different strengths in ABS or PP. Realtecs: a new generation of release papers With this new product development, Surteco has managed to create a realistic representation of a surface with all of its characteristics with regard to shape as well as the nuanced gloss level. Accurate texture and surface recreations with regard to detail result in a realistic and natural picture of the surface. The high-resolution textures can be realised from ultra-matt to high gloss. Sedatecs – silky soft and robust at the same time The name already reveals the unique nature of this technical foil: “Seda” is the Spanish word for silk. Sedatecs combines the two outstanding properties of this luxury natural product in a very impressive way. The foil is both as soft as silk, and robust and resilient. Sedatecs is an advanced development for the coating of interior doors. The antifingerprint property means that Sedatecs foils look good, are extremely pleasant to the touch and are absolutely ideal for everyday use. All decors from the Decor Match of SURTECO are possible here – including solid colours. Sedatecs can also be used as door rebates both with paper-based folding edges and also with ABS folding edge. Thanks to PUR hot-melt adhesives, the high-performance plastic ABS, precise profiling of the edge is possible, and even zero joints. Compact-Style: The award-winning design edge The edge for design diversity received four awards at the same time, the interzum award, the reddot design award, the German Design Award and the Diament Meblarstwa. The combination of solid colour front and Compact-Style simulates a single-coloured coating with an inlaid panel providing a natural effect. This effect significantly upgrades the furniture and the edge skilfully defines a modern design edge. Digital-Edge: Design individual edges Designer dreams come true with the Döllken Digital-Edge. Digitally printed thermoplastic edges empower creative furniture manufacturers and interior architects to create dedicated design details when styling furniture. The edgebandings are digitally printed offline – for a rapport-free print profile in perfect colours and outstanding quality. This is also in conformity with the strict standards of the kitchen industry. Digital-Edge is supplied in thicknesses between 0.6 mm and 3.0 mm, and in widths up to 105 mm. A choice of various grades of gloss is also available from matt to premium gloss. Textured solid colour decors as finish foils: Uni+ Monochrome interiors are becoming increasingly popular. But monochrome does not have to mean monotone, as demonstrated impressively by our new textured solid colour decors: they pay a surprisingly simple and timeless tribute to the new living trend, while remaining extremely versatile with their clear, geometric structures. New: Tecofoil PP These finish foils are ideal for 1D and 2D processing of boards and extrusions (profiles). They are printed, moisture-resistance polypropylene foils which are refined with highly resistant environment-friendly varnish systems and textured with embossing cylinders to give an authentic natural feel. Tecofoil PP can be processed using the existing machinery assets. eDition: the new digital print portfolio Leather, cork or braiding? Thanks to high-precision printing techniques we are able to create authentic haptic and visual properties as complex surface textures. Our new digital eDition digital decor collection represents the ultimate design aspiration and can be supplied in a width of 640 mm. New Copyright Protection via Watermark – Using Tracking and Legal Means to Protect Yourself from Decor Counterfeiters in the Industry

Comprehensive Copyright Protection for the Entire Industry Schattdecor first presented decors featuring the method developed by FiliGrade back in 2017, also at the world’s leading trade show for furniture production and interior design in Cologne. And the global market leader for decor printing has incorporated copyright protection into its newly developed products ever since. Roland Heeger, Chief Technical Officer at Schattdecor AG: “We have been working with our partner FiliGrade on the development and implementation of a new form of decor copyright protection for the past four years. The question of how to protect ourselves from the industry’s counterfeiters has been a concern of ours for many years – with the new method, we now have an answer. This method won’t completely prevent counterfeiting, of course. But with this new form of copyright protection, we are creating the legal means and the basis for successfully tracking down the counterfeiters, and even prosecuting them in court. Our intention is to offer this protection to our competitors as well in order to achieve the maximum effect throughout the industry in the form of a standardized method of copyright protection. And in doing so, we will help bring the counterfeiters to justice. After all, the major, reputable decor printers invest heavily in R & D to produce trendy, successful, and market-driven decors for their customers every year, and the counterfeiters take the easy way out and only counterfeit the decors after they have proven popular in the market. The decor developer SURTECO also relies on this new method, making it the next company to take a step towards industry-standard copyright protection. Dieter Baumanns, Chief Executive Officer of SURTECO GmbH: “Each one of our competitors is faced with the same problem – counterfeiting – which is why we see Press Release the benefit in a standardized, industry-wide method of copyright protection. Ultimately, we are all pursuing a common goal: forming a united front against piracy!” Mobile App Offers Additional Value The embedded watermark will not only provide protection against decor counterfeiting, but will also add value for customers through their mobile device. Two years ago, Schattdecor released a corresponding app that can be used to scan the watermark to view decor information like the decor name, decor number, or collection colors on a mobile device. This is a service that the company now wants to launch industry-wide together with other competitors via an industry app. Johann Kerver, Chief Executive Officer of FiliGrade Printed Watermarks b.v.: “The concept is similar to that of a QR code, which is embedded as a watermark in the decor. When scanned, the data is read from a server. Then it is transmitted and displayed in the app or on a corresponding website, for example, in the form of information about the decor.” The goal of the two decor manufacturers is to give customers the ability to quickly and easily obtain information about the desired surface – regardless of its manufacturer – by viewing the company’s personalized profile and content at any time on their mobile device via a free app. Both companies agree that this “offers incredible value for both sides.” Contact Daniela Schweiger-Laussermaier Schattdecor AG Corporate Communications Phone: +49-8031-275-2795 Fax: +49-8031-275-2200 E-mail: d.schweiger@schattdecor.de Josi Brunner SURTECO GmbH Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing Phone: +49-2583-292-46 Fax: +49-2583-298-246 E-mail: josi.brunner@surteco.com Han Meiberg FiliGrade Printed Watermarks b.v. SURTECO Design Stories – From the discovery of timeless trends
SURTECO Design Stories – From the discovery of timeless trends

Trend: Awarism – Living the beauty of the simple being. Deceleration. We reduce the tempo of life and open up space: for a more conscious perception of our world and ourselves. We reflect what is happening around us and our involvement in it. We have accumulated far too much baggage – both material and nonmaterial. Time plays a central role – as does the question of proportionality. We tidy up and stick to removing anything superfluous. ‘Less rather than ever more’: that is our credo for separating ourselves from things and making space for the essential. The process and the right attitude are more important to us than the result. calm – aware – gentle – attentive – simple – minimalist Trend: Realsense – We feel our roots wherever we go. Global, urban, digital: the whole world fits in our bags these days. It is only a fingertip on our smartphone away. We are connected to it around the clock. At the same time, this connection to people, places and possibilities is built on distance – created from technological codes and smoothly polished screens. The character of this technological world increasingly awakens our need for the original connection that needs no intermediary: connection with nature. We want to experience things with all our senses again. To feel genuine textures and haptics that touch us and keep our feet on the ground. We want to give space back to nature and bring it into harmony with our urban lifestyle. For a natural, fulfilled life – in the middle of the digitised world. natural – warm – sophisticated – original – grounded Trend: Urbanamic – The city she loves us, and we love her. Mobile, networked, autonomous: we know our way around the world. Metropolises are the hubs that take us to other experience spaces, our catalysts of cultural influences. We flexibly adapt what touches us and thus integrate it into our sense of style, balancing tensions as a matter of course. In this way, we establish an optimised juxtaposition and togetherness of individual facets: we need the well-grounded connection with nature as much as pulsating bigcity life; we maintain our personal place of refuge and, at the same time, participate more intensely than ever in social events; our curiosity feeds on the cultural diversity of foreign countries and the manifold stimuli of our digital worlds. These are slick contrasts, out of all of which the reflection of our self-image is composed – always ready to adapt the next stimulus. filigree – opulent – simple – lavish – aware of origins – modern – urban – floral Trend: Respire – We close the circles and create a better world. Tracks. We leave them every day. Some good ones, but also tracks with damaging consequences: on the Earth’s ecosystem and on our immediate environment. We have realised that the melting of the icebergs is partly connected to the way we live in Europe and elsewhere in the world – everything is connected. We have recognised the consequences of our actions and want to make use of that fact. There are no limits to creativity: we work with what the environment drops in front of our feet. We create new materials and substances from waste to close the circle. We combine things in new ways to help design the future in a positive way. We leave behind good tracks. living – sustainable – recycled – functional – inspiring More about Design Stories Press Contact SURTECO GmbH Frau Josi Brunner Am Brühl 6 86647 Buttenwiesen Germany T: +49 2583 29-246 josi.brunner@surteco.com www.surteco.com

SURTECO interzum 2019 - Interplay with dimensions. Perfect match.

The focus of the trade fair appearance at interzum 2019 was the SURTECO match. We strive for perfection, perfection in design, colour, gloss and haptics. This differentiating core competence is reflected in the diversity of specialists and know-hows that are grouped together under the umbrella of SURTECO. But, we are more than the sum of our parts and that was the crucial factor for our motto in 2019: We are One for your success. The exhibits combined a variety of disciplines and material combinations in one object and showed the opportunities that open up for the customer with the SURTECO match. Many parts unite to create a whole. Each facet forms a building block for: one product of the portfolio, one solution for an industry, one brand within the match. interplay with different dimensions. Sculpture cubes allow easy handling and a superior and uniform appearance. The right solution for every industry, harmoniously combined. Perfectly staged. 10-meter-long tables presented the latest innovations in surface technology as well as the latest trend decors and designs. SURTECO presented brand new "Design Stories" in its own trend gallery. Actually developed as an online-tool, that continuously shows trends and their stories, at the interzum own exhibits were created, which transported these stories from the Wolrd Wide Web to Cologne.

SURTECO impresses with unique trade fair stand design
Interzum 2017. SURTECO impresses with unique trade fair stand design

"Our aim is not simply to present areas of expertise and opportunities – we want to bring them to life in a tangible experience, present their effect and inspire aspirations." This was our demand on the SURTECO trade fair stand at interzum 2017. Together with the design studio Ippolito Fleitz Group, we developed a design approach under the motto "ONE in Motion" that was anything but not ordinary. Visitors were able to experience the strength of the SURTECO Group live via the impressive stand architecture full of interesting products and designs. Anyone standing at the Cologne trade fair in the central piazza was invited to experience exactly this. SURTECO presented itself as a central market player on 550 m² in the best frequency. But the large area alone was not what attracted visitors. “Trees" over five meters high rised up to the sky, impressively revealing the diversity of the product range. Visitors embarked on a transformation between opportunities, a voyage of motion – which moves in the literal sense. In keeping with our promise this year of “ONE in Motion”. Three trend trees showed the most important designs. A fourth of the surprising constructions presented current highlights in the decor match, two further fanned out installations the latest technical innovations. And especially the excitingly choreographed portrayal of edgebandings from BAUSCHLINNEMANN and DÖLLKEN attracted visitors with its waveform 3D look. The stand concept is awarded with the "German Design Award” With this stand concept we hit the bull's eye of the jury of the "German Design Award" in 2017. The 550 m² stand convinced the jury with its impressive architecture and the complexity of the products as an integrated concept. We received the German Design Award in the "Winner" category for our trade fair concept. "The image of the iconic trees installed above the stand, forming a covering over it, endows this trade show stand with a characteristic identity," the jury explained.

Popular, elegant, in vogue - The unique appeal of black
Popular, elegant, in vogue - The unique appeal of black

Those who remember Coco Chanel will be thinking of the little black dress. In 1926, the American fashion magazine Vogue wrote the following caption under the design for a black sheath dress by the French fashion designer: “This simple dress will become a sort of uniform for all women of taste.” But it is not just the little black dress that has since been seen at classy celebrations and even many a day at the office. Black lends any item of clothing an elegant look. Attention is focussed on the person, who can then set new highlights, with a colourful leather bag on their arm, for example. Not only in fashion is black a powerful stylistic device. On the stages of theatres and operas all over the world, impressive Bösendorfer and Steinway pianos are nearly always black. It helps them blend into the background, leaving room for the musicians and music. When it comes to the design objects that surround us in our everyday lives, it is also black that really makes the difference. The little black notebook in which we write down our observations, the black fountain pen, the black credit card: it is the fact that they are black that turns them into stylish and classic objects, which discretely provide support in our daily lives. And now the biggest understatement of our times is increasingly making its way into our living environments as well. Where white once dominated, black is increasingly taking over. From bathrooms to kitchens, mat black surfaces are often used to create an impression of calm and a pleasant atmosphere, with the blurring of edges and boundaries. Just like the little black dress, black surfaces stand for modern life, in which new highlights are being set, drawing attention to what really counts. The food on the plate, the fresh flowers in the colourful vase on the table – or even a new red lipstick. “Black gives us the potential to completely redesign rooms. Providing more depth, more calm and even more spirituality in our otherwise so breathless everyday lives.” Jörg Dietz, Head of Design bei SURTECO Read more about the stories b ehind our decors in our Design Stories .

Fascination Caravan - Atmospheric design meets technical sophistication
Fascination Caravan - Atmospheric design meets technical sophistication

What defines a successful concept for the interior design of a caravan? The styling starts off with a layout plan. This establishes the atmosphere and the style within the vehicle. The special design experience is then created through the decors and the colour concept. Interior design plays a key role in the caravan because it influences the sense of wellbeing experienced within. Consumers are often unable to put their finger precisely on the causes of perceived “incongruities”. But they are not slow to decide when it’s not what they’re looking for. Good design exerts an indirect effect and makes an impact subconsciously. A caravan is old-fashioned and conservative. That’s simply not true. Although camping is undoubtedly not a new concept, mobile living is currently experiencing a big increase in popularity. The caravan is going up in the world to become a chic, mobile living unit, and purchasers’ aspiration to design their own individual camping vehicle is on the rise. SURTECO is making a crucial contribution to the transformation of the caravan interior with its innovative surfaces and individual designs. The Haithabu decor provides a felt finish that introduces a textile decor into the caravan over a large surface. This would have been inconceivable just two years ago. The whole interview is readable in our Design Stories . Learn more about the current trend in the caravan sector and what is important when combining decors and colours.
